  • Since 1984, when I started Thompson-Frater Architects, I have remodeled everything from a closet to an entire shell of a building.  Predominately residential, my work has allowed me to see the struggles of remodeling by homeowners.  Therefore, I am determined to write a book to make remodeling easier, room by room.

Usually, homeowners know what they need or want or what doesn't work with their living space, but they don't know how to fix it.  I'd like to walk a reader through the over-all approach to fixing-it and then offer advice on getting the "fix" completed.  It could mean adding space or re-using space already there-just in a better manner.  Re-thinking usage can be cheaper than adding on!

This website will be used to update you on the progress of the book but mainly to solicit comments on topics for the book.  I'll add a subject a month-perhaps a room or common problem area.  In the meantime, I plan to interview many past clients and remodeling professionals in order to address the toughest areas of remodeling.  This book will show examples, but it will mainly walk you through the "fix-it" process with your space.  From there, you will be better educated when you begin a remodeling project of your own.

Please log on every month and add your comments.  I want to make sure I write about the worst of the worst to make the the "fix-it's" seem possible!  When in doubt, don't tear out - just stay tuned!!  Thanks for your help!
